Canada's Plan to reduce emissions definitely targets important and representative sources of GHG's. A nice addition to the mentioned strategies, would be an increased community involvement. Small individual contributions to prevent or mitigate global warming, can be very significant if the whole community is engaged. Here are are some actions you can take to reduce your carbon footprint:
- Shop at your local farmer's market and support local manufacturers
- Whenever possible, choose alternate transportation options: use a bike, ride the bus, walk or car pool with a friend
- Have your own compost bin, and use it to grow some produce for personal consumption over the summer
- Minimize your meat consumption, as well as your electricity consumption
- Maximize the life of your electronic devices
- Avoid using plastic bags and any other disposable items
- Collect all your plastics, papers and organics for recyling and composting
- Stay informed, have an opinion on climate change and current initiatives, and dont forget to share your thoughts with those around you!
- Get involved with organizations and events that defend your same ideals
- Make climate change as big of a priority as economic growth and social justice when voting to elect your politicians
